Greece vacation – Experience a Paradise called Greece
Athens – the capital city of Greece which showcases historical monuments such as the Acropolis, the Agora, the Pantheon , the Temple of Zeus and the incomparable flea market, the Monastiraki.
Thessaly – see the Meteora peaks where six of the total twenty-four original monasteries are still standing. These monasteries have been built right on the top of high rocks so as to protect them from attack when the times were against Christians; monks here were accessing the monasteries via net-type manual lifts.
Pelepnonnese peninsula which has some breathtaking natural beauty to offer both in terms of beaches as well as mountains. The River Styx, the deep gorges and the connecting 4 miles wide Isthmus of Corinth make this place a must-see for any visitor.
Crete – the south most island and the largest in Greece offers some phenomenal beaches and where you can see the Palace of Knossos where the legend says that the Greek Mythology hero Theseus slayed the evil Minotaur.
Ionian islands – this is the picturesque location where Captain’s Corelli’s Mandolin was shot. You can also visit Ithaca which was the home of another Greek Mythology hero, Odysseus of the Trojan War fame.
The Cyclades – this is a group of islands where you can find exceptional churches, splendid virgin beaches and excellent accommodations. Here the night life is great with bonfires, wild dancing and great sea food; at the same time the day time entertainment will deliver much above your expectation.
Greece best pastime is the taverns – something similar to the Western pubs – where beer is usually served. The taverns are mostly opened the whole night during peak seasons and the drinking is accompanies by lovely folk music and impromptu dancing by men and women alike. If you like public parades and festivities, then time your Greece vacation between February and March when the Easter Carnival takes place. There is a lot of entertainment, costume parties and general enjoyment at this Carnival, where everybody celebrates right out in the street. In May you will be able to witness a spectacular parade of flowers during the Rhodes Flower Parade. For the music lovers, you can keep your Greece vacation during August when the Santorini’s Jazz festival takes place with highly qualitative open-air musical concerts.
There are also special places for gay and lesbian people – the islands of Mykonos, Lesbos and Santorini – where people of this sexual preference are free and comfortable to pursue their personal interests. Greece is quite tolerant and understanding regarding homosexuality though it is not openly flaunted.
